"America's First Lady of Deaf Senior Citizens" presents a fascinating adventure in ASL storytelling, Evelyn Zola captures a piece of Deaf heritage, enhancing your ASL & interpreting skills, as you laugh and cry along with her. Sent away to boarding school at age 3 to be trained in the oral and lip-reading tradition, she eventually found "her people" in the signing community as a teenager in Chicago. An award winning teacher and interpreter trainer, she also performs regularly, recently doing two stand-up comedy shows a night on an all deaf cruise of 1100 deaf seniors.
"Hearing and deaf alike will benefit greatly from watching this unique blend of personal recollections, deaf humor and insights from a very successful deaf adult. As a teacher and interpreter trainer, and on stage performer, Zola offers the viewer a multidimensional perspective of a deaf woman's life of sadness, confusion, joy, belonging and nationally recognized achievement." Jill Ellis, C.E.I.D. Director
